This photo was taken at the opening of Whitebridge High School on the 9th October 1964.

Shown are Senior Prefect Brian Goodwin (obscured) presenting the Minister for Education, the Hon. E. Wetherell, M.L.A., to prefects Greg Cross and Allan Searant.

On the far right is the School Principal, Mr H Kearsley.

Dignitaries included Hon. E Wetherell, M L A., Mr H Kearsley, Mr J C Harding (Deputy Principal), Mr G Fraser (President of the P & C Association), Cr T R Pendlebury (President of Lake Macquarie Shire), Mr W A Gelfius (Education Department), Mr J T Stewart M L A, and Rev J D Moody (representing visiting clergy).

Some 700 people attended the function, an urgent plea was made for an assembly hall (built some 20 years later!), and a holiday was granted in honour of the occasion.

MEMORABILIA FROM THE '60s

The librarian at Whitebridge High School has for some time invited us to go through some memorabilia stowed in one of the storerooms. We finally made the effort and found many loose photos for the sixties and early seventies, as well as newspaper articles and other items for the first few decades of the school’s operation.

There are still some years where photos are either missing, or limited in the numbers, so when uploading is complete a call will be made for some help in filling the gaps.

Some photos for the more recent years have been borrowed from the ‘Common Room’ upstairs in ‘D’ Block (the original school library for anyone pre 1975) for scanning and inclusion on this site, but there are still some gaps!
